Basic resources

A list of basic resources

Below is a basic list of things you are likely to need for your learning journey. You may need other bits and pieces for specialist activities, but this is a good guide to get you started.

  • Scissors (proper, not the child friendly ones that are hard to cut with!)
  • A3/A4 paper and large rolls of paper/plain wallpaper
  • Tissue paper, crepe paper and/or gummed paper
  • Tracing paper
  • Old gift cards, pictures from magazines, sweet wrappers, bits of old wrapping paper
  • String, ribbons, wools and threads
  • Envelopes (different sizes)
  • Odds and ends, e.g. small toys like lego heads, plastic figures, wooden bits, shells, anything that is interesting (we add to ours all the time bits from the beach, party bag gifts)
  • Basic printer, printer cartridges
  • PVA glue, Pritt stick
  • Glitter pens
  • Felt tips (I always started with triangular pens and pencils to aid a good pencil grip)
  • Colouring pencils
  • Water soluble colouring pencils and or crayons
  • Wax crayons
  • Pastels
  • Range of coloured paints, ideally powder paints so they can mix their own desired colour
  • Paint pallets
  • Range of different size paint brushes (ideally proper ones)
  • Range of drawing pencils
  • Charcoal
  • Masking tape
  • Sellotape
  • Stamps and ink pads
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Wooden beads (or plastic)
  • Big needle for weaving
  • Playdough/plastercine/fimo/clay*
  • Modeling tools for playdough/clay
